Multi-age grouping has a long history and its advantage lies in being modeled on the family unit. It is defined as a combination of children of varying ages with different developmental levels, cultural backgrounds, personalities, and interests.
In this way, each child has their place, each child has something to offer to others, each child progresses at their own pace, and each child has the opportunity to be truly themselves.
The multi-age group provides an important educational environment that promotes:
- The active participation of everyone at all times
- A sense of security for the younger children
- The implementation of measures that allow each child to find their place within the group
- The development of skills corresponding to each child’s level of development
The development of skills corresponding to their level of development
The multi-age system offers many benefits for your child, such as minimizing group and educator changes during their time at the CPE. Your child will move from the infant group to the multi-age group (18 months – 47 months) and will change one last time to the single-age group (48 months – 59 months) to complete their learning before starting school. However, changes may be made in certain specific situations within the facilities.
The multi-age system allows your child to identify with a key caregiver and to develop a strong sense of belonging to a group and a classroom.
